Time Travel: Ethical Dilemmas and the Butterfly Effect

Chapter 1: The Intriguing Concept of Time Travel
Join me as we explore the captivating realm of time travel. Before we delve deeper, I want to clarify my position: I am not asserting that time travel is or isn’t feasible. Instead, I wish to raise some thought-provoking questions and share my beliefs regarding its moral and ethical dimensions.
One of the most fascinating aspects to ponder while discussing time travel is the concern surrounding the butterfly effect. For those unfamiliar with this concept, the butterfly effect suggests that a minor change in a situation can lead to substantial and unforeseen consequences. For instance, if I were to travel back to 1888 and inform a man that his wife was unfaithful, this revelation might lead to their separation. This chain of events could ultimately prevent the birth of their child, who, hypothetically, could have been a significant historical figure like Hitler. Conversely, the butterfly effect can also yield positive outcomes; for example, if I traveled to 1687 and felled an apple tree, it might inhibit Isaac Newton's discovery of gravity.
I strongly endorse the notion of multiple universes. My hypothesis posits that if an individual were to alter historical events, such changes would merely manifest in a different universe. However, if the multiverse theory is incorrect, then our universe would face the repercussions, though we might remain oblivious to the changes.
Section 1.1: The Ethics of Altering History
This brings us to an essential question: Would altering the timeline be considered unethical if no one is aware of the changes? The alteration of events would be deemed unnatural, leading to an ongoing debate about whether "unnatural" equates to "unethical." Personally, I contend that any deviation from the original timeline is immoral, as every historical event imparts a lesson. A young child cannot learn valuable lessons without experiencing the consequences of their actions.
