Embracing Transparency: My Journey of Building in Public
Written on
Introduction to Building in Public
Greetings, everyone! Today, I want to unfold a unique journey that has significantly impacted both my business and my personal development as an entrepreneur. This journey revolves around the concept of 'Building in Public,' which has completely altered how I work and connect with my audience.
For many in the entrepreneurial space, Building in Public signifies revealing the process behind their endeavors, from the inception of an idea to the final output. Personally, it extends to sharing my income reports and aspirations. This level of openness was initially intimidating, yet it has proven to be immensely rewarding.
The Initial Encounter
When I first encountered this idea, I felt both fascinated and anxious. The thought of disclosing my financial situation, goals, and progress to the public was intimidating:
- What if I faced criticism?
- What if my objectives seemed overly ambitious or, conversely, not ambitious enough?
Despite these apprehensions, I chose to embrace this approach. Here’s what I discovered.
Overcoming Early Obstacles
Admittedly, the journey wasn’t without its hurdles. The fear of judgment often loomed large. It took time to acclimate to the notion of sharing my journey, flaws included. While I did face some negative feedback, I learned to accept it and utilize it constructively.
Another challenge was striking the right balance: sharing enough valuable content without overwhelming my audience with unnecessary details. It’s crucial to provide insights that are meaningful, beneficial, and authentic.
Progress So Far
Currently, I have published two earning reports:
Earnings Report #0: My Journey of Earning $3.29 in 4 Days
If I can do it, so can you!
Earnings Report #1: I Have Earned $7.85 This Week
My Lambo can wait :)
While my progress may seem modest, I take pride in consistently publishing over one article daily. I've also outlined my objectives for this week and the entire month, and I am determined to achieve them:
August 2023 Goals: 7 Days of Growth, Creativity, and Connection
Weekly Goals for Building in Public #1
What do I aim to accomplish this week on Medium?
This journey is ongoing, and I look forward to reporting on the outcomes next week.

Before we proceed, I want to emphasize that your feedback fuels our growth. If any part resonates with you, please highlight it and share your thoughts. Thank you, my friend!
Through my experience, I have identified five key benefits of Building in Public (a heartfelt thank you for your support):
Community Development
Sharing my income reports and objectives has allowed me to cultivate a community of like-minded individuals who resonate with my journey and support my achievements. Thank you all!
Enhanced Accountability
Knowing that others are tracking my progress and cheering me on serves as a powerful motivator. It compels me to remain committed, work diligently, and fulfill my commitments.
Constructive Feedback
Publicly sharing my financials and goals opens the door for feedback and, at times, criticism. This input is invaluable as it offers fresh perspectives, highlights blind spots, and facilitates quick iterations.
Personal Development
Embracing vulnerability and transparency can be challenging, yet it is incredibly freeing. It enables me to let go of the fear of judgment and embrace my imperfections, fostering a growth-oriented mindset.
Trust Building
By sharing both my victories and struggles, I foster trust within my audience. People value honesty and authenticity, making my journey relatable.
Final Thoughts
Adopting a Building in Public approach by sharing my income reports and goals has been transformative. It has enabled me to nurture a supportive community, maintain accountability, gain invaluable feedback, experience personal growth, and establish trust with my audience.
While challenges exist, the advantages far outweigh them. If you’re an entrepreneur hesitating about Building in Public, I encourage you to give it a shot. Start small, share something you’re comfortable with, and gradually reveal more as you become at ease.
Remember, it’s not about divulging every detail but rather being transparent, authentic, and genuine.
