Why I Decided to Part Ways with My MacBook Pro

Chapter 1: My Experience with the MacBook Pro
This week, I parted with my beloved 15-inch MacBook Pro (Intel 2017), a decision that brought a wave of sadness since this laptop was one of my favorites. Without a doubt, it was the most impressive laptop I’ve ever owned. With its stunning design and smooth performance, I tackled various tasks, from client projects and programming to graphics editing and video work. There seemed to be nothing this machine couldn’t handle. Nevertheless, I had several compelling reasons to let it go.

Section 1.1: The Arrival of the Mac Mini
The first factor influencing my decision was the launch of the MAC MINI equipped with the M1 chipset. I opted for the Mac mini as my primary computer since it was significantly more affordable than purchasing another MacBook with an M1 chip. This machine has now become my daily driver. I plan to share a review soon, but I can already say it’s a fantastic option for anyone looking to avoid spending a fortune on a MacBook Pro with M1, which I initially purchased right after its release.
As I transitioned all my projects to a fully remote setup, the need for a portable laptop diminished. Gradually, I found myself using the MacBook less frequently, which felt unfortunate for such a capable device. Despite my efforts to justify keeping it, the reality of its diminishing usage ultimately swayed my decision.
Section 1.2: The Impact of the iPad Pro
The final push to sell came with the introduction of the iPad Pro featuring the M1 chip. This development prompted me to stop hesitating about selling my MacBook, leading me to consider whether I wanted the 11-inch or 12.9-inch iPad. This decision marked a significant turning point. When away from my office, I frequently use the iPad Pro with Logitech's MX Keys external keyboard to draft blog posts and manage client projects. Additionally, I consume a lot of content on it, making it one of my most-used devices alongside my phone. For anyone seeking a capable replacement for their laptop, I believe it fits the bill perfectly.
Chapter 2: A Financial Motivation
The most compelling reason to sell my MacBook was to free up funds for purchasing the iPad Pro 12.9 with M1, which I acquired at a fraction of the cost thanks to the sale of my MacBook. This new device has enriched my life by enhancing my reading and creative endeavors, as the expansive screen, combined with the touchscreen and Apple Pencil, is designed for artistic expression.
I spent considerable time contemplating the sale of my cherished MacBook Pro, but I couldn't justify allowing it to collect dust when someone else could benefit from it. This experience also prompted me to reevaluate other tech items I own but rarely use, encouraging me to minimize my collection and focus on what I truly need rather than what I merely want.
