# iPhone 11 and XR: Unfortunate News for Older Models

Chapter 1: Recent iOS Update and Its Implications
It appears that there's disappointing news regarding some older iPhone models. I touched on this topic yesterday but would like to delve deeper into why this might be significant and what potential solutions we could explore. The recent release of iOS 15.4 (in beta) seems promising, introducing a variety of new features that I'm quite pleased about. However, one particular feature stands out: the ability to use Face ID while wearing a mask.
Unfortunately, this new functionality is exclusively available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, leaving models like the iPhone 11 and earlier out of the loop. From what I've observed, the Face ID hardware in the iPhone 12 does not differ significantly from that of the iPhone 11, which raises questions as to why Apple chose not to extend this feature to older devices.
Currently, we are in the first beta phase, so there is a possibility that this feature could be introduced later on. However, this isn’t the first instance where Apple has restricted features to the latest iPhone models. For example, Siri was unavailable on the iPhone 4, group FaceTime was never accessible on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S, and Portrait Mode was missing from several devices that could have easily supported it.
In conclusion, the most effective way to advocate for the addition of this feature to older iPhone models is to communicate with Apple Support and express our desire for it. What are your thoughts on this situation?
