Forget What You Think You Know: Insights from My Decade in Business
Written on
Chapter 1: Embracing the Journey
After a decade of running my freelancing business, I’ve encountered numerous mistakes along the way, which I now view as valuable lessons.
Mistakes are a stepping stone to success; striking gold on your first try is exceedingly rare. With this in mind, I have decided to gather the insights I’ve gained over these ten years into this single post. Let's dive in!
Business Literature Is Fruitless Without Application
The number of business and self-help books I’ve read is limited. Titles like "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Tim Ferriss, "100 Million Offers" by Alex Hormozi, and "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy are among them. However, simply reading these works is futile if you do not take actionable steps afterward.
Cut Off Those Who Wish You Ill
As you start to achieve success, you may find that some individuals around you become envious rather than inspired. If you have friends who embody this negative mindset, it’s wise to distance yourself. However, if you’re experiencing financial growth, it's important to avoid flaunting your success around those who are struggling.
Expect Criticism Regardless of Your Skill Level
It doesn’t matter how talented you are; every successful individual will encounter critics. Even the most distinguished writers face their share of detractors. This is a normal part of the journey, and it’s crucial not to dwell on negativity nor let accolades inflate your ego.
The Difference Between Earning $10 and $10,000
The process of securing a $10 client is not vastly different from landing a $10,000 client; it primarily involves persuading fewer people to invest more in your product. By honing your skills, you open doors to new opportunities. The mindset shift is key when it comes to attracting higher-paying clients.
Stay Humble: You Don't Know It All
Reaching your first $10,000 doesn’t mean you’ve mastered the game. There will always be individuals who are achieving more than you. It’s essential to remain open to learning, expanding your network, and continually striving for higher earnings. Believing you have all the answers is a recipe for stagnation.
