New Features in iOS 16 Developer Beta 5
Apple has released the iOS 16 Developer Beta 5, bringing along some exciting new features that users will appreciate. Here are five noteworthy updates that enhance functionality and user experience.
- Battery Percentage Indicator Returns!
For those who have been using iPhones for a while, the absence of the battery percentage on the status bar since the iPhone X launch has been missed. With iOS 16, Apple has reintroduced this feature, allowing users to view the battery percentage directly on the battery icon. However, the actual level will be concealed by default. If you prefer the classic display, there’s an option to revert to that.
To activate this feature, navigate to Settings → Battery → Battery Percentage. Currently, this option is supported on iPhone X, XS, 12, and 13 series models, excluding the mini versions.

- Live Audio Waveform for Music and Podcasts Widgets
The revamped Lock Screen widgets for Music and Podcasts now showcase a vibrant audio waveform. Unlike a static image, this waveform animates in real-time, pulsating to the rhythm of your currently playing audio, enhancing your multimedia experience.
- Simplified Screenshot Management
For users who frequently share screenshots, iOS 16 introduces a streamlined option called "Copy and Delete." After capturing a screenshot, simply tap Done (located in the top-left corner) and select Copy and Delete. This will allow you to copy the screenshot while simultaneously removing it from your library, saving you space.
- Enhanced "Find My" Sound
The new "Find My" feature now includes a sound that is louder and more distinct, making it easier to locate your devices. To hear it for yourself, you may want to use headphones and adjust the volume accordingly for a better experience.
- Customize Spotlight Suggestions
If you'd like to keep your Spotlight search clean and free from suggestions and recent items, you can do so easily. Head to Settings → Siri & Search → Before Searching to disable these features.
When suggestions are turned off, you won't see recommended apps at the top of your search results. Similarly, disabling recents means that your recently accessed apps, files, and webpages won't appear while you search.
