Empowering Smart Devices with a Decentralized Network

Chapter 1: Introduction to a New Network
Our mission is to utilize scalable and cost-effective technologies to contribute to the development of a decentralized internet. We are making strides toward this objective with the rollout of our first 50 wireless hotspots.
These innovative hotspots, developed by Helium, Inc., a company based in Silicon Valley, form the foundation of what is known as "The People's Network." These WiFi-enabled devices are capable of gathering data from smart devices over significant distances (up to 10 miles) using an open-source protocol known as LoRaWAN, all without the burden of an expensive data plan. In return for providing LoRaWAN coverage, the hotspots earn a new cryptocurrency called Helium, which can be exchanged for USD.
Anyone with a WiFi connection can host a hotspot and earn a portion of the Helium cryptocurrency that it produces. Hotspot hosts are playing a crucial role in establishing the world’s first genuine peer-to-peer wireless network, which is owned by internet users rather than large corporations. This network offers affordable coverage for smart devices in a manner that traditional telecommunications cannot match. Moreover, these hotspots are remarkably efficient; a single hotspot can service thousands of smart devices while consuming only the energy of a standard LED light bulb (5W). Just 50 to 100 hotspots can adequately cover an entire city.
Currently, we have deployed a sufficient number of hotspots to fully cover San Antonio, Texas, the seventh-largest city in the United States. Our objective is to extend this coverage to other major Texas cities, beginning with Austin, which ranks as the eleventh-largest city in the country. If you are interested in helping us broaden our coverage throughout Texas or simply wish to learn more about our company and participate in the construction of the decentralized web, please reach out to us.
Section 1.1: Benefits of Hosting a Hotspot
What advantages come with hosting a hotspot? Beyond contributing to a decentralized network that enhances your city’s smart capabilities, you will also receive Helium cryptocurrency for every data packet transmitted through your hotspot. The only expense incurred will be the minimal power required to operate the device.
